Hempress Sativa

Hempress Sativa, born Kerida Johnson in Jamaica, is a powerful voice in modern “conscious roots” reggae. Influenced by her father, legendary selector Ilawi Malawi, she grew up immersed in sound system culture and developed a commanding lyrical style that blends roots reggae with hip-hop, Afrobeats, and R&B. Her debut album UnconqueRebel (2017) and its viral hit “Wah Dada Deng” established her global reputation, followed by Scientist Meets Hempress Sativa in Dub (2018). Known for her energetic performances across the U.S. and Europe, she champions Rastafari values and female empowerment in reggae. Today, she continues to nurture new talent through her platform Hempress Sativa Live.
