ALPHA STEPPA
ALPHA STEPPA
London-based producer Alpha Steppa has been immersed in the world of dub and sound systems from a very young age. It’s hard to imagine it any other way, given that he is none other than the son and nephew of members of the duo Alpha & Omega, an English underground dub group formed in the late 1980s. Still keeping it in the family, he collaborates with his father and aunt as part of the trio Dub Dynasty.
At the same time, he also heads up two labels, Trigram and Steppas Records. It was on the latter that he released his fourth solo album, ‘Raise the Ark’.
‘Raise the Ark’ features 22 tracks, eight of which are dub versions of the vocal tracks featured on the album. It’s an album with an international line-up, as for these vocal tracks, Alpha Steppa has teamed up with numerous artists from diverse backgrounds, each bringing their own unique influence. Among others, the line-up includes the Italian-Senegalese artist Sista Awa, who features on four tracks; the Russian artist Tenor Youthman; the Italian-Ghanaian artist Block Mameli; the Franco-Nigerian artist Nai-Jah; the Irish artists Eva Keyes and Ciann Finn; and the French artist Pupajim from the group Stand High Patrol.
